Street Crimes

The Street Crimes Division is a highly visible team. Members of this division will help prevent crime by working with the community. Street crime is generally considered a crime that takes place in a public place (like the street). It can include anything from robbery to drug dealing.

The officers focus their efforts on criminal apprehension, as well as concentrating on specific crime trends in Roswell. At times, the Street Crimes Division works with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in combating crime.

Crime affects the entire community. Officers in the Street Crimes Division, and all RPD officers, are dedicated to taking criminals off the streets and reducing crime in neighborhoods, but it takes all citizens to share in the responsibility to take a stand. One way to do this is to report suspicious activity. You may help prevent a crime. The Street Crimes Division looks forward to building positive relationships within the community.

If you have a tip which could help solve a crime, contact the Roswell Police Department (575-624-6770) or Chaves County Crime Stoppers (1-888-594-8477).

RPD also has School Resource Officers (SROs) who work under the supervision of this division. The Roswell Independent School District has welcomed SROs into public schools not only to help deter any criminal activity, but to also be another positive resource for Roswell's youth, which includes, as one longtime officer puts it, "helping young people make better choices." Along with school guidance counselors, the School Resource Officers aim to guide students to make wise decisions in all aspects of their lives, with the goal of helping Roswell's youth become productive and positive members of society. Also, having SROs work among the schools allows for a more rapid response time should they be needed at a school in an emergency.
